Dear friends, As you may know, there are a group of Dalmatian owners who are trying to address the problem of urinary stones in Dalmatians. Dalmatian Stone Disease is the result of a defective gene in the Dalmatian gene pool which results in incomplete metabolism of purines. The resulting high uric acid in the Dalmatian's urine creates an environment for the possible formation of urinary stones. There is currently a line of Dalmatians that have the normal gene for purine metabolism. This line began 30 years ago with a Dalmatian - Pointer cross. Since then all the offspring have been crossed back to Dalmatians. In the 12th generation, the Dalmatians are 99.98% Dalmatian and 0.02% Pointer. Our goal is to make these Dalmatians available to Dalmatian breeders who would like to get that normal gene into the Dalmatian population. To do this, we feel it is necessary for these Dalmatians to be AKC registered so that Dalmatian breeders will be comfortable using them in their breeding programs. If you would like to join the battle against Dalmatian Urinary Stone Disease, we would appreciate your signing the petition at the link listed below. You may make comments or leave it blank, but if you have ever had a stone former, we would appreciate your comments. Also, after you sign the petition, a new page comes up asking for a donation to the group that sponsors the website. Please do not feel obligated to donate. Just close the page. It will not affect your signing the petition at all. Thank you for considering the signing of this petition. Quote this article on your site | Views: 388
