Comments Limited to Registered Users Print E-mail

ImageCommenting on articles has been limited to registered users.  While we have tried to make the site as user-friendly as possible, spam has become a huge problem as the site grows more popular.  Unfortunately, those users who chose to be informed via email each time a new comment was posted were receiving notifications each time an automated spam bot posted a comment.  We are working feverishly on a new and improved site which will be using a different CAPTCHA program that will allow us to open commenting up to unregistered users again.  Rest assured, we will not use any information submitted during the registration process for any reason other than to verify your account.

DALS.ORG Activity Takes Off! Print E-mail

dals.org usage
Seven months after our first page was served, dals.org has began to see an exponential increase in website traffic.  In September we had 2837 visits from 613 unique visitors for a total of 40343 page hits!  True, about half of the page hits are from various search engines as they crawl the site, but even with only half of the hits attributed to "real live people" we're happy with the activity level.

ImageDue to a DNS configuration error, the site was unavailable for a short time to those people who use "http://www.dals.org".  It was always available via "http://dals.org", which led to some confusion and a delay in discovering the problem.  Apologies for the inconvenience.

I just exchanged emails with Ron over at BreedMate.  He was very helpful.  The site will soon include an online pedigree database, which I will also make available for individuals so they can maintain a copy of their own.
